Hotel staff in Dubai, illustrating hotel jobs in Dubai for foreigners

Young chefs, waiters and receptionists often ask me whether Dubai is the right first step abroad. My honest answer: it can be, if you go in with real experience, the right documents and a clear head. We have just published a detailed guide on Hospitality Vacancy, and here I share the advice I think matters most. Read the complete guide here: Hotel Jobs in Dubai for Foreigners: Roles and How to Apply.

Why Dubai builds careers

Dubai hotels, resorts, restaurant groups and catering kitchens run on multinational teams, so being a foreigner is normal there. A few years in a busy international property is valued by employers across the Gulf, in Europe and back in India. Freshers usually enter through stewarding, housekeeping, commis or junior service roles, while experienced staff can move towards supervisor and outlet roles.

What employers look for

Most listings ask for relevant hotel or restaurant experience, clear spoken English, experience letters that can be verified, good grooming and the ability to work shifts. Kitchen and service roles also expect food safety awareness. A short, honest CV beats a long, decorated one every time.

Understand the visa order

In the private sector, the employer applies for your UAE work visa. You get selected, sign a formal offer, and then the employer arranges your work permit and entry permit. After arrival, you complete a medical test and Emirates ID registration. A visit visa is never a work visa. If your Indian passport is marked ECR, you also need emigration clearance before you fly.

My advice before you say yes

  • Find the hotel yourself through its official website and match the name on your offer.
  • Make sure the employer name is the same on your offer, work permit and entry permit.
  • Never hand your original passport to someone you cannot verify.
  • Read what the offer actually says about accommodation, meals and transport instead of trusting what friends say.

In my experience, patience at the offer stage saves people from the biggest mistakes of their careers.
